Let me start off by saying that the photoshop at right has absolutely nothing to do with Couric's new gig or any critique of it. It's simply a little more mocking I didn't get around to during the Couric photoshop fiasco. So before her liberal fans come shouting, it's just a joke. I know she's not fat, and she's not bad looking for her age, but I couldn't help myself after watching CBS photoshop a "regular" Katie in to a skinny Katie.

On with the show! Allah made a nice little highlight lowlight reel for everyone, if you can bare it. As I said in the comments at HotAir, the most annoying thing is that her voice is just not suiting for this role. Seriously, even though most of the Fox News foxes are there in large part because of their looks, most of their voices would sound much more authoritative and appropraite for this position. If you can picture Lauren Green's voice, or Page Hopkins's voice, even Kiran Chetry's voice, or any of the dozens of others you realize that even they would certainly sound better. I kept waiting for Katie to tell me about the new hot diet or pull out her wallet to show pictures of her kids.

Notice that my criticism of her isn't because she's "a woman in the big chair". It's personal criticism of the queen of perkiness in a position she doesn't belong in. This was clearly all a publicity stunt, by CBS, from the start. They, along with the rest of the dinosaur media, are looking for a way to pull in some viewers, even if it's just a stunt that pulls some briefly higher ratings. But CBS, knowing their credibility issues after Rathergate, decided to "go big, or go home", and hired Katie not because she's qualified but because she's a "woman" that people know. This also gives people idiots the opportunity to say "if you're a woman, it's your duty to watch". Mary Katharine Ham ain't havin' it.

I'm so sick of this "it's time for a woman president" and "time for a woman anchor" crap. How about we hire and elect qualified people who we think will do a good job for these positions, and not give special treatment based on gender? We already deal with enough of that when it comes to race.

Anyway, many are talking about tuning in for Rush's upcoming appearance, but unless I can cut out all but what Rush has to say, I don't think it's worth putting myself through that.

For her very first night as CBS News diva, Katie spent a half-hour looking as if she desperately had to go potty. Her back was so stiff as she looked into the camera, pop-eyed and self-conscious, I feared it would snap.

Her face was Botoxed beyond normal human endurance, proving that even pampered, overpaid news babes possess the courage to suffer for their art.

And for the first time in history that a female was allowed to deliver a network's evening news alone, Katie chose to wear an unfortunate white blazer - the result, no doubt, of some jokester lying to her face when Katie asked, "Does this make me look fat?"

The best that can be said about Katie Couric was that she did not trip over her 5-inch stiletto heels when she toddled across the floor of the set, crossing her bare legs like some ridiculous tramp.
