Fresh Reuters Picture Kill?! Looks like it...

***UPDATE - ANOTHER CORRECTED CAPTION WITH NOTE TO EDITORS, SCROLL FOR DETAILS***

(h/t reader Michelle)

According to Portland Independent Media Center, Reuters has issued a picture kill on these two familiar images. The odd thing is, according to Portland Indymedia, the link has apparently been removed, though they did get a screen cap, and the caption;

PICTURE KILL FOR YAN06 AND YAN09 TRANSMITTED AT APPROXIMATELY 1343GMT ON JULY 24, 2006. THE IMAGES WERE SENT TO YOU IN ERROR. PLEASE REMOVE THE IMAGES FROM YOUR SYSTEM. WE ARE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE. Aya, an 18-month-old girl displaced from Tyre, cries after a routine operation at a hospital in Beirut July 24, 2006. If you aren't familiar with the pictures, here they are once again, with the captions that Reuters already had to correct, prior to this picture kill:

For more background on the images, see my post here, where I also mention being scooped by Malkin on these images because at the time I discovered them, I didn't think it was enough of a "smoking gun" (for lack of a better term), and didn't bother posting on them. As I said in the earlier post, if I'm going to be scooped by someone, best it be Malkin. And the lesson learned is to not hesitate to post.

Note: I want to point out that I'm fully attributing this to Portland Indymedia because there is no link to this "picture kill" image. Portland Indymedia says the link has been removed, and I have no reason to doubt them or think they invented this (which would imply they had photoshopped the "picture kill image themselves), but I want to make clear that I have not independently seen the "kill" image.

***UPDATE***
I actually don't think the sentence that was removed from this caption was that big of a deal, although it was clearly an editorialized line. Not appropriate editorialization, but given the rest of what we've seen, I think it's pretty mild. What do you think? Photo below, followed by new caption, and then old caption:

Obviously the line removed was: Germany's flag hangs along the street Israeli air raids shook Beirut on Sunday, the fifth day of a devastating assault on Hizbollah and Lebanon that has prompted no U.N. Security Council action and only a mild plea for restraint from Israel's U.S. ally.

Again, I'm not going to make a big stink about this, because when compared to everything else it's not that big. But it should be noted that the line removed from Issam's original caption was editorializing and taking a dig at the UN and the US. I mean, when would you report, especially in a caption, that something didn't prompt U.N. Security council action? Since when does something not happening, make the news? Breaking news tonight: there wasn't a tsunami today, no one won the world series, and no space shuttles were launched. Are these non-events anything to be reported on? Obviously not.

What this does is further prove what we already knew about the agenda of Reuters photographer Issam Kobeisi. If you've been paying attention, you'd know that Issam took the now famous photos of the woman who has sarcastically become known as the unluckiest home owner in Beirut, after one photo of her wailing over her destroyed home was dated July 22, and another dated a full two weeks later, Aug. 5.
