A passenger plane has been turned back to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, Dutch news agency ANP has reported.

F-16 fighter jets accompanied the plane owned by the US airline Northwest.

The plane is believed to have landed and several people have been taken off.

Police have not released any further details.

Security at airports worldwide has been beefed up since the alleged terror plot against US-bound planes was revealed two weeks ago.

However, restrictions mainly affect flights leaving the UK.
