It seems that Tony Snow is now more than just one of those being looked at to replace Scott McClellan as White House Press Secretary, but the most likely choice. TV Newser quotes Anderson Cooper as saying on 360:

Sources close to the White House say that Fox News anchor Tony Snow is expected to accept the job as White House press secretary,

CNN is now reporting this on their web site as well, and apparently the ball is in Tony's court:

A source familiar with the discussions said Monday that newly appointed Chief of Staff Josh Bolten asked Snow to make a decision by early this week.

If this is true, then it seems more likely that Snow will take the position, since he's gone so far as to get a check-up with the doctor to make sure his colon cancer recovery wouldn't be an issue, which it apparently won't:

The sources said Snow, who has been battling colon cancer, got a good prognosis from his doctor last week and that Snow resolved his concerns about taking the job over the weekend.

Expect some whining from liberal bloggers about how "this proves" that Fox News is already a White House propaganda machine. This is partly because they aren't aware that Snow isn't the "evening news" guy, he's a commentator, and he's already held a related job, serving as a speech writer for President George H.W. Bush.

I don't know how I feel about this. I don't doubt Tony's abilities or anything, but I just wonder if he's really the best for the job? I'm sure he'll do a great job and probably stick with the Press Secretary tradition of trying to be respectful of the press corps. But I don't think I want that. I'd like to see a White House Press Secretary say things like "shut up David Gregory you little puke!", but obviously that's not going to happen. At any rate, it sounds like Snow will be the man, and we'll have to wait and see how he does. Good luck Tony.
