NBC Staging The News, Setting Up Show To Display Anti-Muslim USA

Michelle Malkin and Little Green Footballs are all over this, so I won't bore you with much commentary, just wanting to point you in the direction of their posts on this developing story. Basically NBC is seeking Muslims to send them to "non-Muslim" events like NASCAR races to film bigotry (that they hope to see) so they can smear America for being a bunch of intollerant Muslim haters. Shocked? No. Outraged? Absolutely.

Read Malkin's post that broke the story here. Here's the transcript of the letter that got this all started:

Date: Mon, 27 Mar 2006 13:05:54 -0800 (PST) From: Subject: Looking for Muslim Males to participate in NBC Dateline Segment

[Forwarded]

Salam,

I hope everyone is doing well.

I have been talking with a producer of the NBC Dateline show and he is in the process of filming a piece on anti-Muslim and anti-Arab discrimination in the USA. They are looking for some Muslim male candidates for their show who would be willing to go to non-Muslim gatherings and see if they attract any
discriminatory comments or actions while being filmed.

They recently taped two turbaned Sikh men attending a football game in Arizona to see how people would treat them. They set them up with hidden microphones and cameras, etc.

They want to do the same thing 2 or 3 other times (in various parts of the USA) with one or two Muslim men in each setting. They are looking for men who actually "look Muslim". They want a guy with no foreign accent whatsoever, a good thick beard, an outgoing personality, and someone willing to wear a kufi/skullcap during the filming.

They also want someone who is fairly well accomplished and has contributed to American society at large in some meaningful way.

That said, I'm urgently looking for someone who can be filmed this April 1st weekend at a Nascar event (and other smaller events) in Virginia. NBC is willing to fly in someone and cover their weekend expenses. The filming would take place all day on Saturday and Sunday.

We already have a hijabi sister who will be filmed there but a Muslim is also needed to join her. I also need candidates for the other filming segments which will take place in the following weeks.

A few weeks later, NBC will fly all the filmed participants to New York City to interview them as a group about their experience and thoughts on discrimination they've faced in America, especially in light of the times we live in (war on terror, 9-11, etc.). The show, if approved by NBC (highly likely), is expected to air sometime this summer.

What I need from interested candidates is an email with an attached clear photograph, a resume, and contact information. I also need basic information such as age, ethnic background, accomplishments, etc.

The sooner I can get this the better and please don't make emails too long. I will then submit a group of candidates to NBC so they can choose the people for the show.

Please forward this to all Muslim lists you can. Because of the upcoming filming in Virginia, this is pretty time-sensitive. My contact information is below.

Salam,

Tarek El-Messidi

Little Green Footballs has more on the author of this letter, Tarek El-Messidi

And Malkin gets confirmation from NBC that they are doing the story.

I wonder if NBC would like to accompany with hidden cameras to a college campus or anti-war rally (like there's a difference), wearing my Vote GOP shirt and see what I get. Actually, they could just attend some abortion rally, or anarchist group rally, and see what sort of hatred anyone opposed to their views receives. It would take a year to list examples, but just think about how conservatives are treated at rallies/marches whenever there are people their from both sides. Dateline's camera's must have been busy those nights.

Stay tuned as this develops...

Wearing a vote GOP shirt to an abortion rally etc is worlds apart from this.First off wearing anything to any rally that is contrary to the ralliers position is going to draw some ire.Dem or Repub. This is about muslim men and women going to unorthodox events and see if they draw any heat.If Nascar fans weren't so prejudice to begin with(and yes I met my fair share) this would be a non issue. You just know some sloppy hillbilly is gonna start yappin his mouth.
Also heres a link to that professor we discussed. It's his rebuttal about how his words were misconstrued*rolls eyes*

I've actually read the Pianka response... what pile.

I would predict that if these Muslims went to a NASCAR event and took part as other fans do, rather than sitting their in native garb with an angry look on their face they would largely be left alone... But if they come with an attitude they are attracting negativity towards themselves... Wearing the native clothing isn't an excuse, but it is an excuse for staring... We all stare at what's different whether it be someone with big ears or a big nose or whatever.... I smell a set-up, but that's only because of shows with predetermined outcomes like 30 days, etc. Will NBC be sending a stereo-typical white nerd to roam the streets of Harlem? Or better yet a rich white guy driving a nice car? How about comparing what happens when a hot girls walks through a black neighborhood vs. a white one?

You see.All your examples of white girls walking through bad neighborhoods or nerds in Harlem etc are typically bad scenarios. We know how they will most likely end up.This will be orthodox muslims going to events they wouldn't be typically at.Now if your comparing the danger of a muslim at Nascar to a white girl walking through a black neighborhood that makes me think that you feel a muslim is definitely in hot water at an event like that. And he may or may not be.I think thats the shows premise:What would happen if...Now if he sits there angry and indignant or will be rooting for his favorite corporate emblazoned car who knows. What is wrong with social experiments?

going to events they wouldn't be typically at

Would a white girl normally be walking through a black neighborhood?

The point is the same... sending someone in with the predetermined conclusion that they are going to be discriminated against. I doubt without some time of provocation they would be, but if the video will seem to show otherwise, I doubt we'll get the raw unedited video.

Like if these guys act like they are there to have a good time and they are fans, I'm sure they would be left alone, but if they sit there with the stone face and deliberately trying to stand out in the crowd, I wouldn't be surprised if a few people take issue... but the same can be said for a million other paralells you could come up with, it doesn't mean every NASCAR fan hates Muslims, but that is clearly what the idea is of this show. They are hoping to see some NASCAR fans throw out racial slurs so they can say "see white Christian NASCAR (read: right-wing Repubs) fans hate Muslims!"

I just have trouble picturing some Muslim in traditional gear acting like a normal fan. I mean I see Muslim famlies in stores from time to time, and other than maybe the small kids (sometimes) acting happy the men look angry and often are yelling at the kids and the woman is quiet and sad looking and looks like she doesn't dare to say a word.

If these men are in the audience clearly not their to watch their favorite driver, I'm sure they'll draw some attention... Just like a figgity or stone faced Muslim on an airplane would. There are always raised terror alerts and security measures for things like the Super Bowl and World Series for fear of a bombing that would kill thousands... but if you're at a NASCAR event (by the way, I'm not a fan and don't undestand the fun in watching cars go around in a circle for hours) and you're all wearing your NASCAR shirts and hats, chugging beer and just being a bunch of loud mouth redneck fans, and you see a couple guys sitting there with looks on their faces like they hate you and hate being there, and dressed in typical Muslim gear, I don't know... I don't think that excuses anyone tossing out slurs, but it shouldn't surprise anyone to hear a few.

It's the double standard thing... blacks can at will call white people crackers and everything else and no one cares, but the second the tables turn it's national news... only in this case they are setting it up with an idea of what will happen already in mind... how can we expect an honest presentation when we can read the stated goal? People worldwide (including Bush) condemned the Danish cartoons and seemed more concerned about them, than the hundreds of people who died at the hands of Muslims as a result (though it wasn't really as a result, it was just an excuse for Muslim violence). The world screamed "incitement", just like they did when the blacks rioted in Toledo... It is always somehow America/white people/Republicans/Christians faults, but if a couple rednecks don't get violent but make a couple rude remarks to some Muslims at NASCAR you can be sure that it will be the talk of the town on all media outlets for a few days, about how "intolerant" NASCAR fans (again, read: white/christian/republican) are.

Who knows maybe they'll play fair and send a democrat to a Rush Limbaugh spoken word convention or a Neocon to an Al Franken USO tour.
