So I'm checking Michelle Malkin's blog, as I do every morning, and I see a post about illegal immigration. Nothing new right? Michelle is always out front on the issue, right? But today there was something a little "new". Actually, it sounds like the story is about a week old (Shocker! The MSM didn't have much to say about it), but "new" to most of us.

Anyway, in honor of St. Patrick's Day, Michelle opens by explaining that as many as 50,000 of the country's illegals are Irish, and then quickly directs us to this Human Events Online piece by Terry Jeffrey, that reports on a few of our most notorious politicians parading around with illegal immigrants:

Senators John McCain (R.-Ariz.) and Hillary Clinton (D.-N.Y.), the current frontrunners for their parties’ 2008 presidential nominations, joined Senators Teddy Kennedy (D.-Mass.) and Charles Schumer (D.-N.Y,) in rallying a group of illegal aliens who came to Washington, D.C., on March 8 as part of a lobbying effort funded by a foreign government to push for amnesty for illegal aliens.

What!? THEY'RE ILLEGAL! How can some of the nations most powerful politicans be running around with illegal immigrants!? These people technically shouldn't be freely walking the streets, but these idiot politicians are out there holding hands with them!!! Where's the media!? And more importantly, where's law enforcement!? I don't think it's tolerated for these politicians to have illegal immigrants tending to their gardens, so why are they allowed to run around Washington with them?

A couple quotes from politicians who's priorities are clearly out of whack:

“It is so heartening to see you here,” said Clinton. “You are really here on behalf of what America means, America’s values, America’s hopes.”

“You are doing what democracy is supposed to be all about, petitioning the government to right a wrong,” said McCain.

I'm just curious, should we expect to see these two fly to New Mexico next week and ride around in the back of a pick-up truck with some illegal Mexicans on the way to a construction gig? I doubt it. Hell, even here in Nashville. I could go out and find you an illegal Mexican in less than 5 minutes I guarantee it. I won't hold my breath waiting for these two to make this their next stop on their illegal immigrant love tour.

By the way, Michelle Malkin wonders what happened to this Hillary:

I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants. Clearly we have to make some tough decisions as a country, and one of them ought to be coming up with a much better entry-and-exit system so that if we are going to let people in for the work that otherwise would not be done, let's have a system that keeps track of them... People have to stop employing illegal immigrants.

I suspect that quote (or the flip-flop) will garner about as much attention as the more than a decade of "Dems on WMDs" quotes do whenever one of said Dems calls the President a liar.

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern was last night told there could be no special deal for the 50,000 Irish illegals in the US as he used the annual St Patrick’s Day visit to Washington DC to battle to save them from deportation.

Republican Senator John McCain insisted the workers could only be included in an overall agreement dealing with the 12 million such foreigners believed to be in America.

He said he was hopeful the legislation he and Senator Ted Kennedy are championing will prevail over more draconian attempts to tighten immigration laws.

The Arizona senator said illegal Irish and foreign workers needed to be encouraged to join mainstream society to end their "exploitation" on its margins.

"Are there Irish citizens here being exploited? There are I've talked to some of them," he said after meeting the Taoiseach.

Mr Ahern pledged to keep up pressure on the issue as he conducted a day of intensive lobbying which saw him meeting other leading political figures as well as being guest of honour at a Congressional lunch attended by US President George W Bush.

Senator Kennedy said: "The status of the 50,000 to 70,000 undocumented Irish in America needs to be adjusted."

I just saw a clip of a taped interview on FNC in which PM Ahern wasn't ambiguous at all about his desire to have these illegals granted citizenry.

Back to the original point, why are we tolerating our politicians hanging around with illegals? I almost can't believe that it even happened. What is going on?!
