Democrats' Policy Statement: "Our Plan? We Still Hate George Bush"

***SCROLL FOR UPDATE***3.30.06 @ 5:26 PM CT

Here come the no plan Democrats shouting that they have a better plan, but offering nothing but more Bush bashing and insane promises again. For a while now Republicans have laughed at the Democrats while they insist that they have a plan, but when it comes down to it, their only plan is "elect me", they throw tantrums over everything the President does, but don't ever offer any ideas, all the while screaming that the President is dividing the country (when it is clearly them).

It's almost every day some loud mouth Democrat comes out announcing "plans", but when it's all said and done the most substantive thing they've come up with is, "it's time for a change". Basically all we've learned in recent years from Democrats is that they "have a plan" and it's "time for a change", but we have no idea what their plan is on anything, therefore we have no idea what would change if we vote for them. I wouldn't even want to explain this if it weren't for the fact that this has become so obvious that it's mainstream common knowledge anyway, and the Dems still aren't getting it. Remember when Kellyanne Conway and Tony Snow made Democratic strategist Jenny Backus panic and look like an idiot by simply asking what the "plan" was. A hilarious bit of TV, check it out now if you missed it.

Anyway, today's AP headline reads: Democrats Pledge to 'Eliminate' Osama. Let's start with the obvious and point out what a ridiculous promise this is to make. First of all, why use the word "eliminate", that's just weird and I suspect it's just a jazzed up word for "kill" in a desperate attempt to talk tough. But who makes a promise like that? Now before you libs come out whining that Bush promised to get him, yes he promised to get him dead or alive and fight a world wide war on terror. The difference is that the manner in which the Dems make this promise is to say "Bush can't catch him, but we guarantee that we will", which is just irresponsibly stupid.

The article begins:

WASHINGTON - Congressional Democrats promise to "eliminate" Osama bin Laden and ensure a "responsible redeployment of U.S. forces" from Iraq in 2006 in an election-year national security policy statement.

In the position paper to be announced Wednesday, Democrats say they will double the number of special forces and add more spies, which they suggest will increase the chances of finding al-Qaida's elusive leader. They do not set a deadline for when all of the 132,000 American troops now in Iraq should be withdrawn.

For starteres, "responsible deployment" isn't a plan, it's just another way of saying that Bush isn't deploying responsibly. They sort of attempt a plan by saying they'll double the special forces numbers, but it should be noted that the military should be making these sort of recommendations, not political policy statements trying to find a way to score some "security" votes.

Moving on:

"We're uniting behind a national security agenda that is tough and smart and will provide the real security George Bush has promised but failed to deliver," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in remarks prepared for delivery Wednesday.

Great, what is that agenda? Mr. Reid? Mr Reid!? Hey, where'd he go? Oh, let's see if Nancy Pelosi can explain the plan:

His counterpart in the House, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (news, bio, voting record), D-Calif., said the Democrats are offering a new direction — "one that is strong and smart, which understands the challenges America faces in a post 9/11 world, and one that demonstrates that Democrats are the party of real national security."

Yeah, Reid already told us that Nancy, but you just changed a few words. Like when Reid said "tough" you went with "strong", and then he put it before "smart" in his sentence, where as you put it after. I suspect this is part of that "big tent" party you always talk about, where you have all sorts of ideas coming together.... Oh wait, you actually still didn't even attempt to explain your plan either. Basically all either of you said was "vote for us because we say we're better and Bush sucks". Care to elaborate? Ms. Pelosi? Do I have bad breath or something? Where do these people keep running off to? All I'm doing is giving them a free chance to explain their plan!

Ooh there goes Schumer, let's see if I can catch him. Maybe he knows the plan...

"The Democrats are going to take back the security issue," said Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York, the chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

When did you have the "security issue", that you are now "taking it back"? By the way, that comment smacks of what we always accuse you of, simply playing politics with everything and looking at everything as "election issues", versus doing what is right for the country all the time. I remember how Kerry had a plan for Iraq during the Presidential election, but wouldn't reveal it yet (and still hasn't, pressumably because he didn't win.) So I guess we can only assume that Kerry doesn't want Bush getting credit for following his genius plan, so he just keeps it secret now? Thanks for doing what's in everyone's best interest's Senator, and thanks Schumer for that deep explanation of your plan.

I love this comment from the RNC's Tracey Schmitt, it's right on:

"This is more of the same from the party that opposes this president's effort to keep our country safe," said Tracey Schmitt, a Republican National Committee spokeswoman. "The bottom line is while this president campaigns against the terrorists, Democrats remain focused on campaigning against this president."
The platform also lacks specific details of how Democrats plan to capture bin Laden, the al-Qaida mastermind who has evaded U.S. forces in the more than four years since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

For months, House and Senate Democrats have tried to craft a comprehensive position on national security, but they have splintered, primarily over Iraq.

Shocking! The platform lacks details?! That's probably because details would only be available if they actually had a proposal or plan for anything, more than just election talk.

Republicans have sought to use that division to their own political advantage, claiming that Democrats simply attack the president and his fellow Republicans without presenting proposals of their own.

Yes we have sought to use that to our advantage, and we will continue to make these claims because they are demonstrably true. I wonder if these people are even aware that 25% of the country says they have no plan on Iraq. Sadly, they don't really care they just want to win so they are hoping that they can be the default winners if poll numbers for Bush and Republicans fall any lower.

At the same time, Vermont, the state in which I was born and raised, continues to be an embarassment with their little impeachment movement. Great job worrying about the insane property taxes and health care, and instead focusing on important issues like baselessly moving for the President's impeachment just to get national media attention. Let's prioritize here folks, and remember that we are at war.

VT's Republican Party chairman hits the nail on the head:

James Barnett, chairman of the Vermont Republican Party, said, "I think the whole ordeal is unfortunate. I don't think we should be impeaching presidents because we disagree with them." He said evidence for impeachment was drawn from "left-wing blogs and conspiracy theories."
