Actor Richard Belzer Hates The Troops

Expose the Left has video of one of liberal celebrity Richard Belzer on "Real Time with Bill Maher" insulting the troops, and essentially calling them idiots. Belzer basically says that they (the men and women in Iraq, doing the fighting, seeing everything first hand) don't know what's going on in Iraq, but he, Richard Belzer, who has the time to read 20 newspapers a day, does. Don't believe me? Watch it now and explain where I spun that.

The term POS was invented for this guy. His sickening display is worse than when the LA Times columnist said "I don't support the troops". Here's a bit I've taken the liberty of transcribing.

Congresswoman Ileanna Ros-Lehtinen referring to troops in Iraq:

...Ask them!...

Belzer:

"Ask them", That's Bullsh**, "ask them", they're not - they don't read 20 newspapers a day. They're under the threat of death every minute, they're not the best people to ask about the war

The Congresswoman tries to explain that her step-son just returned from an eight month tour and for like the 3 dozenth time, Belzer rudely interrupts and speaks over her saying:

(insincerely)God bless your step-son.... (sincerely) doesn't mean he's a brilliant scholar about the war, because he's there...

Listen close as Maher backs him up with a "right", and the far left idiot audience applauds.

The Congresswoman doesn't back down and sarcastically shouts back:

You are! You are though!

Belzer's response?

Well I have more time to rea... I'm not there, my life is not under threat...

Is this guy serious? Does he realize what an idiot he sounds like? You read newspapers and you know more than the troops who are there? I mean, I know liberals are idiots by nature or they wouldn't fall for such a ridiculous set of values and beliefs, but this guy would have to be a robot programmed by Karl Rove to make the left look even worse. I mean how can someone make such ridiculous and irresponsible statements? I'm really just shocked at the level of stupidity. I suppose he reads Newsweek? I wonder if the debunked Koran/Toiletgate story that got almost 20 people killed in riots was part of his abundant knowledge, even though the poor dumb troops who are actually at Gitmo knew it wasn't true. But no, Belzer and Newsweek were right... right?

Not impressed? Belzer goes on to say that these men and women are only in the military because they couldn't find a job! What!? Well, that's really respectful you f-ing douche. No one should ever watch anything or assist in lining this POSs pockets ever again. For starters we have historically low unemployment! What is it 4.7% right now?!?!?! Come on Richard, your 20 papers must have reported that somewhere! Or maybe not. Anyway, Maher actually brings it up, but Belzer repeats it, as it was obviously his sentiment.

This is where Bitch (typo?) Maher comes in with:

I think the point he's trying to make, is that a 19 year old who is in that army, because he probably couldn't find other employment...

Then when the Congresswoman again tries to explain that her step-son is a college grad and not some unemployed kid who's too stupid to see the war he's been fighting in, Belzer claims that her step-son is the exception to the rule and says:

You think everybody over there is a college graduate?! They're 19 and 20 year-old kids who couldn't get a job...

Congresswoman Ileanna Ros-Lehtinen speaks over him here and says:

(sarcastically) Yeah you know, 'cause you've been there and...

To which the psycho angry lib (like there's any other kind) snaps back and cuts in with:

I don't Fu**in read!?!?!?....

Well, you just need to watch the video... My transcribing isn't doing it justice. It's one of the most shameful displays you'll see. Sadly, if you've encountered many liberals, you know that in so many words this is how most of them feel. They won't always come right out and say it, but they sit around listening to Air America and watching shows like this and they love every minute of it.

I call for a boycott on Belzer right now. F this guy, am I right? Again, Belzer claims that reading 20 papers and having never been to Iraq makes him more qualified to know what's going on than the troops who are over there fighting... Is this thing on? And beyond that these people (the troops) who would have to be idiots (if they aren't able to see what is going on around them), so basically he's calling them idiots, are only their because they couldn't get a job. This guy is really a piece of work.

A lot of folks share my sentiments over in the comments section of Expose the Left's post on this.

This from one of the troops in the field, who goes by the name of jspsax:

This guy has no clue. I am over “here” right now. Does he have any idea what kind of education the troops have? We are one of the most educated workforces in the world. To put us down like that infuriates me. Does he realize that in the US Air Force just for example, you have to have a degree just to be promoted into the SRNCO ranks? And thats enlisted people!! Believe it or not we can still think for ourselves and evaluate what is going on around us. I have also had the privilige of serving with many coalition partners and let me tell you something, The American military is the most professional, educated and devoted military on earth.

He seems to think we are ill-informed. Guess what? On the AFN TV programming we get, its all MSNBC and CNN all the time. We even get Olbermann every single night. Not only that, but the magazines and newspapers available to us are a wide array of leftist materials. If we are ill-informed, its completely to the left. But he wouldnt know all that because he hasnt been here!

It is shameful that the troops have to hear this. I wish I could comment more on this. But I am not at liberty to discuss this any further.

jspsax later asks:

Is there any contact information for this Belzer guy? I have a whole shop of ENLISTED airmen with degrees that have something to say about his comments.

I tried to post a reply but for some reason, Ian's spam filter is eating up my comments over the past couple days... Anyway I think that if anyone is an IMDB pro member, they should be able to get the contact information from Richard Belzer's page. Another interesting tidbit I picked up at IMDB was this about Belzer's own education:

...was kicked out of every school he ever attended

In addition, folks can use the following email address from Bill Maher's own personal site to contact Maher:
billmaherfanmail@safesearching.com

Or use the form on this page for contacting Maher's HBO program.

Again, if you can stomach it, watch this sickening display via Expose the Left. I'm sure the lefties will come say "you can't paint us all with that brush"... But I think we all know what they're about, and this is just the latest example.

Belzer is a Junior College dropout and washed out of the Army. Gives you an idea of just how intellegent he is.

Lynn,
I couldn't care less about Belzer's history, except that he puts himself up as some sort of genius and basically says that all the troops who are experiencing and seeing the war first hand are idiots. But what you point out just piles on to how ridiculous it is for him (of all people) to make those statements.

In reponse to your request....Done.

Thanks.

What the hell does Munch know? Just cuz he went to some "college" and, oooh wow, he "keeps up on current events," he thinks he knows more about what we're really doing in Iraq than the grunts on the ground???

I've seen footage of the troops out there, fearlessly blasting buildings to bits with battle-tanks, and pumping "the roof is on fire" on the sound system all the while! Sure most of them haven't seen 20 yet--but you can't tell me a generation raised on violent video games doesn't understand death and destruction!

Plus, Belzer's overlooking the fact that the troops get all that motivational talk from thier higher-ups--all the way to the Prez himself--telling them why they're there. They don't have to hear all the "well it turns out every justification was wrong" crap day in and day out like we do here.

What an ass. He thinks he knows more about a war he's never experienced, just because he can read about how certain people are profiting from it, or how some President or other has agitated for invading Iraq for years because they embarassed his dad. It's the actual troops who are out there spending 18 hours a day trying not to die while blowing up whatever they can--who's gonna know more about the real reasons they were sent there; them or some guy who maybe has access to thousands of pages of leaked documentation about who knew what when, whistleblower testimony about who rewrote what history and why, and so on?

(And then he dares disparage this wonderful economic recovery, just cuz it's a "jobless" one? I'm right in the thick of that, like the troops in the war--I've been unemployed for a couple years now, and have watched the same happen to friends & family--and *I'll* be the judge of how well-off I am, thank you very much! I got my $300 extra-no-reason-refund, and far as I can tell, that more than makes up for the widening income gap, inflation of consumer goods, the growing share of wealth going to the already-wealthy, and whatever other "facts" he can cite from "sources.")

Max Farrow, you have just entered into a higher level of idiocy... "Jobless" recovery? Have you watched the jobs numbers? February = 243,000 Jobs, Last 12 months = 2.1 million, Since August 2003?........ Almost 5 million!!! Unemployment is at 4.8 percent!!!!

Please ignore all those numbers from previous paragraph Max, and just scream "jobless recovery, economy collapsing" with your fingers in your ears and marvel at the great economies of europe... haha

trying not to die while blowing up whatever they can--

How uninformed of a douche can you be? That is not at all what they're doing. If that were the case they wouldn't be dying. They work so hard not to kill innocents and offend muslims that they are set up to get hurt... I just can't even get in to this, you're such a POS. Sayin the troops are just bombing indiscriminently is as low as you can get.

And you're as much of a troop hater as Belzer. You are actually supporting his position that he knows more from reading some liberal papers back home than the folks on the ground. Are you aware that they get the same news we do? I even quoted a solder in Iraq above who talks about how all they see is MSNBC and CNN all the time. This isn't a secret, except apparently to you... In the information age they're getting the same stuff we are. Hell a lot of them are even blogging!

But go on, keep telling the troops how you and Belzer know more about what's going on and how they are just a bunch of idiots who couldn't get jobs so they joined the military (vs. patriots).

For the record plenty of troops are college educated, many are doing it for help with going to college... and Belzer flunked out.. .I don't think that's the biggest deal except that he's challenging the intelligence of soldiers on the ground, and whether they can interpret what they see with their own eyes!

Just move to Canada already you POS. You're just disgusting, there's no other word for it. I can't believe that people like you even exist.

Should've known better than to expect anything other than vitriol and hate and half-supported rebuttals here. Sure, you can cherry-pick a few numbers here and there, but the overall picture over the last few years is undeniably bleak. At least it is here, in the real world.

And boy, although I've heard about it happening, I;ve never actually been accused of being a troop-hater myself! I'll parrot the left party line--if you love the troops, why are you so willing to put them in harm's way for such vague reasons? Of course I support the troops, but I can't get behind this war. A number of the guys I went to school with are either over there now or back recently, and at an average age of 25, they're at the far end of the age spectrum. How can we say these kids really know what they're fighting for over there? Even the ones who do have time to watch satellite news, even the ones who are getting as much of it as we are here? After all, most of *America* no longer knows what we're doing over there!

It's a sad time when political debate is replaced by name-calling, insults, and fallacious accusations. I have nothing against any American; I just wonder why some of us are so willing to blindly follow an administration that has pretty much incontroverticly proven itself incompetent, self-serving, and untrustworthy? Seems to me that, for the good of the country, we ought to be looking at what we've really accomplished, what benefits there actually were, and what actual options we face now, instead of going about business as usual, which for 3 years now has simply resulted in thousands of dead soldiers, tens of thousands of dead Iraqis, hundreds of billions of wasted dollars, and a security situation that is by all accounts worse than it was to start with, here *or* there.

But I suppose it's easier to attack the patriotism & character of anyone asking those questions than to ponder the answers. And that's exactly what they want you to do.

By the way, I really don't read Belzer's comments that way. I don't think he's attacking the troops' inteligence by pointing out that they are generally young, and thus less-educated, and often too busy to really follow domestic current events.

Look bud, you can attempt to spin it any way you want... But you did nothing but insult the troops by questioning their ability to see what is going on around them and digest the news they get which is the same thing we get.

You've tried to spin it like I have a problem with your questioning the policy, but notice I haven't attacked that.. I've attacked your language, which mirrors that of Belzer that can be seen as nothing short of insulting of the troops.

Sure, you can cherry-pick a few numbers here and there

Cherrypick numbers?!?!?! Those are the numbers, no cherrypicking necessary. You may not like it, but the economy is BOOMING and has been for years even through Katrina/Rita and insane gas prices. Those are the numbers!!! Unemployment and job creation numbers!!! Cherrypicking? Would you like me to give you the GDP and GNP numbers we've been seeing for years? The record home building? Need I go on? There's no cherrypicking involved, but perhaps you need to take your head out of wherever it is and read the actual news that has continued to roll in about the economy.

Anyway, the point is there has been an abundance of jobs and for you to say these people are in the military basically as a last resort because they couldn't find jobs is nothing short of an outright insult at their motives for joining the military. It's a slap in the face, plain and simple.

Stop the spin that my insulting you has to do with your position on the war or because I'm following the party line... My problem with you is that, like Belzer, you're insulting the troops and their motives. You may be just that insane of a lib that you're unaware that this is what you're doing, but it is. You're calling them a bunch of idiots who joined the military because they could get the millions of jobs that have been created and filled over the past couple years so they joined the military as a last resort, and even being in the thick of it all, they know less than you and Belzer who sit back here reading your liberal papers. No spin, this is what you're saying.

by the way when you say about Belzer:

I don't think he's attacking the troops' inteligence by pointing out that they are generally young, and thus less-educated, and often too busy to really follow domestic current events.

That is about as perfect an example of "spin" as I've ever seen. This is not at all what nutcase Belzer was saying and you know it.

Wrong, Randy. That's ("...generally young, and thus less-educated, and often too busy to really follow domestic current events.) exactly what Belz was saying.

Wrong, Randy. That's ("...generally young, and thus less-educated, and often too busy to really follow domestic current events.) exactly what Belz was saying.

Nice try bud... Last I checked Iraq wasn't a "domestic current event"... could be wrong though. Actually, no you liberals do see it as domestic because you're all about fighting it in Washington, because all it is to you is politics. I see how you got confused. But in the real world, it's not a "domestic" issue, it's a foreign policy/international/security issue. Belzer is claiming to know more about what's going on on the ground in Iraq, than the troops who are there. That is what he's doing, plain and simple, and that is the biggest bunch of crap imaginable. For the record, I would say the average military education level is probably pretty close to Belzer's.

Oh wait, he reads 20 papers a day, I forgot. That means he knows more than troops who are watching the real story unfold.

Thanks for stoppin' by.
