Islamic World Explodes (No Pun Intended) Over Cartoons, State Dept. Supports?

I haven't been commenting on the Danish Muhammad cartoons that have sparked such anger throughout the Muslim world (like they've ever needed an excuse). I haven't commented, not because it's not important, but because other bloggers have covered it so well, I would only be echoing them. But if you want full coverage, Michelle Malkin's has been extremely extensive. If you've somehow missed it, the outrage basically comes back to Islam forbidding the depiction of the prophet in any form to prevent idolatry, and they seem to think that this supercedes free speech, and apparently are seeking violent revenge.

So I personally hadn't been covering this, but I woke up a short time ago to find Drudge linking to this article, that explains how our own State Department is supporting the Muslim outrage. Obviously they wouldn't support the violence and chaos from Muslims in reaction to the publishing of cartoons that seems to only have begun, but the U.S. State Department.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States backed Muslims on Friday against European newspapers that printed caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in a move that could help America's battered image in the Islamic world.

Inserting itself into a dispute that has become a lightning rod for anti-European sentiment across the Muslim world, the United States sided with Muslims outraged that the publications put press freedom over respect for religion.

"These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question.

"We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable."

I haven't heard the U.S. government come forward with statements about anti-Christian sentiment even in our own country.

more:

"Anti-Muslim images are as unacceptable as anti-Semitic images, as anti-Christian images or any other religious belief," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.

Really? Then I suppose you'll be bitchslapping Will & Grace, for having a show planned for the night before good friday, in which Britney Spears hosts a cooking show called Cruci-fixins on a fictional Christian TV network that buys out Jack's fictional gay network.

I won't hold my breath, considering it was the public outrage that got NBC to pull the Christianity mocking "Book of Daniel", and I don't remember hearing a peep from the State Department.

Anyway, Michelle Malkin has begun the Muhammad Cartoons Blogburst for anyone posting the toons, for those wanting to stand behind European free speech in solidarity with our European cousins. Well the toons are now making their debut appearance on RightWinged.com. (thanks Stuff.co.nz for making them one image)

Malkin's latest post shows "demonstrations" in Europe today, in which a bunch of scarfed idiots basically send out death wishes to anyone and everyone. Warning of coming "real" holocausts, a European 9/11, and all sorts of beheadings and slayings... not to mention telling "freedom" to go to hell. Ah, the "Religion of Peace", gotta love it. I suppose the libs will say those are Republican operatives holding these signs, disguised as Muslims to create anti-Muslim sentiment, right libs?

I'm curious, as is Michelle and I imagine many others, as to where the same outrage is over morphed Bin Laden/Christ art work. Of course this is only a small example of anti-Christianity going on around the world and in this country. I can't remember, were Christians calling for violence and beheadings when the Ten Commandments were removed in Alabama? How about when ACLU types tried to change the name of Las Cruces, NM. What about Kanye "George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People" West as Christ on the cover of Rolling Stone? I won't bother going on, because this is about the insanity that violent Muslims are trying to blame on cartoons.

By the way, Zombie has a great compilation of Muhammad images created over the years, where we didn't hear all the calls to arms that we're seeing today...

As I said to begin with, I don't want to be repeatative, so if you want to catch up on this whole thing, check out Malkin's previous posts:

But it is OK to pee in a jar and put a crucfix in it an call it art? Grow up folks. They are only cartoons. Not worth killing or dying over. Grown ups just shake their heads and go on with thier lives.

Will and Grace is one of the most patently offensive shows on TV. It shows consistent poor taste and lack humor. Watching it is like watching a train wreck.

Even worse, my ex thinks it's JUST FINE to let my eight-year-old daughter watch it.

The recent uproar regarding a “controversial” cartoon depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammad reflects a gross double-standard that is becoming much too common in worldwide media.

The double-standard is upheld by both far left-wingers in the United States and Islamo-fascists. While it is perfectly acceptable for Muslims to burn American flags, murder in the name of Allah, and mock Jesus Christ, they deem it an insult when Americans exercise the same freedom of speech to make a political statement. Liberal newspapers such as the New York Times and the Washington Post further the problem when they refuse to run the cartoons of Muhammad, but do not hesitate to criticize the U.S. military and write anti-Christian editorials.

The White House even went as far as to do everything but apologize for the cartoon, citing that it was in poor taste but one has the right say what he wishes because of free speech. The bottom line is that Muslim extremists are up to something big. Right now, they are throwing a fit over cartoons published in September. This random outburst of hate, anger, and violence is merely a foreshadowing of even bigger events to come.
