al-Shakespeare? Guantanamo Bay "Play" To Be Staged In British Parliament. Galloway Set To Play Cat

Well considering that MP George Galloway belongs to them, we shouldn't be surprised that they're allowing this spectacle to go on in the House of Commons.

I actually had what I thought was a good post on this story a couple days ago, but I didn't back it up before changing servers... So if you already read it and are wondering why I'm redoing this, it's because the other post was lost in the move, even though the site wasn't ever really down.

Anyway, check out the Reuters story. It seems these clowns are putting on some play to shine light on whatever they seem to think are abuses going on at Guantanamo bay. I went in to detail with many links in my original post, but I'll keep it more brief this time around.

What abuses have been taking place, that these jokers want to make a "play" about it? And seriously, a play? Who does a "play" on something like this? But back the the abuses....Oh yeah, Newsweek reported that Korans were being flushed down the toilet, only to later have the story turn out to be false... but not before riots that resulted in more than a dozen deaths. To go further it was actually detainees who were tearing out pages and flushing them in protest. The media wasn't too excited about reporting that development.

What other abuses? Oh you mean other 5 incidents, 3 that were intentional, of "mishandling" of the Koran (setting aside all the backtracking of earlier allegations by detainees who later admit only "hearing of" incidents from other detainees) I wonder if those "mishandlings" were a Koran being kicked, another being stepped on, and urine being splashed on another.

Oh, did you mean when a detainee was embarassed because they made him act like a dog and wear a bra? Or about reports of interrogators having dogs in the room, or interrogating in extreme cold or heat, or blaring music? It should be noted that even in the most minor of these "abuse" allegations, investigations have been done and disciplinary action taken (even though that was probably going overboard.)

article excerpt:

LONDON (Reuters) - A play reliving the detention of Guantanamo Bay prisoners is to be staged in the British parliament by human rights activists bidding to push their plight up the political agenda.

"This is the court of public opinion -- the idea is to educate the folks in the House of Commons on what is happening," lawyer Clive Stafford Smith said on Monday.

The reading of the play "Guantanamo - Honor Bound to Defend Freedom" is being staged on Thursday in one of the 150-seat committee rooms in the lower chamber before an invited audience of parliamentarians, lawyers and human rights organisations.

(sarcasm)Somebody lock that evil war criminal George Bush up! He's a torturous brutal dicatator! Look at the abuse! He's feeding a bunch of monsters better than they've ever eatten in their lives and giving them a place to stay better than home, and a couple times a religious book we provided them was kicked or stepped on. How can the world sit by and watch this happen

more:

The United States classifies the prisoners as enemy combatants and not prisoners of war, thus denying them rights accorded to PoWs under the Geneva Conventions.

Your point? No one is "denying them rights". They aren't entitled to those rights. Show us a uniform for these guys, and a country they fight for and then they'll get PoW status...

Also, these type of groups have usually been carful not to use the "torture" word, because they know that would be flat out lying, but they continue (as does the left in our country) to insist "abuses" are going on, without ever citing examples. And the "allegations" are almost always from detainees themselves! Go to any prison in America and ask the prisoners how happy they are and if they like how they're treated you idiots.

The play by British journalist Victoria Brittain and South African-born novelist Gillian Slovo is based on personal testimonies from families of the prisoners as well as statements from lawyers, government spokesmen and medical experts.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin is posting on a NY Times story about detainees being force fed when they are on hunger strikes. I read earlier and thought exactly the same thing. If we didn't feed them the NY Times would be saying we're starving them. I was so annoyed by this story earlier I actually stopped myself when I began to post on it, thinking "if someone doesn't already see the damned if you do damned if you don't about this, then they're choosing not to, so why bother posting"... On second thought, I guess some people might not have heard the story, and may be interested, so check out Michelle Malkin, she's linking to the Times story.
