Al-Qaeda's Al-#2, Al-Zawahri al-Not al-Dead al-.

A lot of people were psyched over word yesterday, that the CIAmight have killed Al-Qaeda's number two in in an airstrike near the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. Sadly this wasn't the case, and the number two wasn't successfully flushed (Randy makes rimshot noise accompanied by air drums for his deliberately cheesy joke)

DAMADOLA, Pakistan - Al-Qaida's second-in-command was the target of a U.S. airstrike near the Afghan border but he was not at the site of the attack, two senior Pakistani officials said Saturday. At least 17 people were killed.

But as we've known all along this isn't about one or two main guys. So the fact our military did kill 17 others ain't nothin' to sneeze at.

So let this serve as an update to all the great blogs who covered this before they went to bed, many of whom are still sleeping and haven't had the chance to update yet (though some are already on it). Needless to say, the blogosphere was (and is) buzzing on this one:

I think it will be more than a moral victory if we nail Zarwahiri and Zarkawi..they've been plotting and scheming like no other replacement could do. OBL is a figure head at this point...if he makes a peep we'll zero in on him.

I heard the CIA is checking DNA from the remaining splat in the HQs in Pakistan. Whether we got him or not..he's been warned...and Zarkawi will probably be killed by the Sunni insurgents who have got to be sick and tired of HIM blowing up Iraqis.

When the two violent extremists at the top of Al Qaeda lose support from other Muslims..they're days will be numbered. However, still counting...wish those Muslims would hurry up and realize that Sucide Bombings ...in Jordan and Iraq give the whole Muslim civilization a bad name...they risk the wrath of a cowboy with an itchy trigger finger...FEAR of the US is back...Iran may learn that lesson the hard way.

17 dead! What? Some of them were children? Don't worry, they were arabs---no problemo!

Really isn't any surprise the BushCo. got it wrong again!?!?

Unfortunately, Bush won't be able to blame the subsequent riots on Newsweek this time.

Sometimes I can't believe you lefties are actually serious...

First off, do you have any proof that nay children died? Secondly, this is a war... No one likes it if/when innocent people get killed... but that doesn't mean it's never going to happen. Thirdly, we don't know... we may actually have gotten Zawahiri, but they won't know for sure yet, and won't say anyway. Next "got it wrong"? What evidence do you have? From what I've heard this was solid intel, but Zawahiri sent aides in his stead, or other variations of a similar story... But again, we aren't sure that he wasn't killed in this thing anyway. Oh I forgot, Bush, Cheney, and Karl Rove were flying around a chopper over this residential neighborhood of peace loving Pakistanis and decided to drop a bomb on their houses because they were Arabs... man you moonbats are really off the wall.

"So the fact our military did kill 17 others ain't nothin' to sneeze at"
"Secondly, this is a war... No one likes it if/when innocent people get killed"

Yeah, you're a real humanitarian! You should get an award! The question, when be drop bombs that miss, is "did we kill innocents"...not "should we sneeze at it". I though you were "pro-life". You're ridiculous.

Conservatives seem to only hold life in high regard when it's politically expedient and emotionally, but not intellectually charged. Who cares about a "few" brown people we "accidentally" bombed. Oops. It's war, baby!

Tell me this, why does BushCo. put the number of Iraqi dead at 30,000 (and reluctantly, at that), when a study which applies the same methodology they cite when claiming 1.7 million had died in the Congo in 2000 puts Iraqi war deaths at 100,000? I'll give you a hint...it has to do with what would happen to the already waning support for this sham of a war (where's the liberal media here, cap'n?)

GREAT ARTICLE on the topic:

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/HA13Ak01.html

The "sorry, but it's war" argument, aside from lacking one iota of human compassion, is a strategic blunder as well. As the above article points out:

"The administration of President George W Bush has long shied away from the high casualty counts that would be an almost guaranteed result of such concentrated, close-quarters urban warfare, casualty counts that would surely have a strong negative effect on support in the United States for its war. (The irony, of course, is that, with air attacks, the US is trading lower American casualties and stronger support domestically for ever-lessening Iraqi support and the ever-greater hostility such attacks bring in their wake)"

And it's not difficult to see the results and the ultimate blowback from Bush's years of blundering:

OOPS!

Man, conservatives really lack the long view of things.
